Playful, adaptive, and smart, French Bulldogs rank #6 out of 192 AKC breeds in popularity. This one-of-a-kind bat eared toy bulldog served as a ratter to English lacemakers. Its job was to keep rats and other rodents away from the lace. Once the English lacemakers began migrating to France, the “Frenchie” emerged as a companion who has a charming personality. This rare breed will warm your heart with its even personality and adaptive nature. They make ideal companions with their small (11-13 inches in height) but muscular build (up to 28 lbs. in weight). Super easy to care for and train, the French Bulldog is easy going and playful. They will lounge around on the sofa or play in the park or yard making them great companions for city, suburban or rural living.
Care for your Frenchie.
Care is one of the most important parts of owning a dog, it drives many of the choices made to purchase a puppy. French Bulldogs are easy to care for, they are short haired which requires simple wiping with a damp cloth between baths. Frenchies have low energy levels and don’t require large yards or outdoor spaces to play, but you should plan to take them on walks daily, or allow plenty of backyard playtime. Frenchies can be susceptible to heat exhaustion so limit outdoor time in hot temperatures. Training is a must with any dog, French Bulldogs are intelligent and free thinking, so be sure to offer training with lots or positive reinforcement. Vary training methods to keep your Frenchie engaged. Most people recommend to crate train your Frenchie to ensure their safety when you aren’t home. However, we do not crate any of our Frenchies. They interact throughout our house daily.
Health is an important part of the care for your French Bulldog. You should know that just like any other pet, French Bulldogs can be prone to diseases. Color markings are one of the most distinguishing characteristics for French Bulldogs. A Frenchie has a sturdy bone structure with a typical French Bulldog head and expression. Frenchies are also named for their character, we have both Clown and Frog dogs. A Frenchie can be referred to as a Frog Dog because of its wide face and the unique way it sits. Its hips are spread out making the Frenchie look much like a Frog. French Bulldogs are referred to as Clown Dogs because they can be vivacious and fun. They have been called the clowns of the dog world dog.
